I love reading non fiction because I have discovered that TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION. I offer a few comments about the characters:

JANE(Matooski)-the quick and sassy expert woods woman.
REBECCA-the paid companion with a vulturine appetite who attracts a mountain man.
JOHN-the manipulative father and most powerful man in the territory
EKKOLI-the clan chief and grandfather of Jane
ROBERT (Skookum Man)- a gleaming officer who tries to keep nature from killing him.
TATOOCHE(the Duke)-Jane's Indian cousin, confidante, and protector who embraces British inventions.

I am Seattle born and grew up near the great river of this
book.
